Jeremy said what are we gonna do?
Alison said I haven’t got a clue.
Derek said let’s wait a week or two
we don’t have to make a decision yet.

They stuck on an old battered 45.
The scratches, the warp brought the song alive.
When it came to the end they put it on again
and couldn’t help but smile at the memories.

It seemed so long ago - the decade seemed to pass so slow.
All the hits written since then - no one got to hear them.

How did they ever get in this mess?
How to get out of it is anybody’s guess.
They were blind, shouldn’t have signed on that dotted line.
Now somebody else is getting everything.

When you’re starting out it’s all about making new friends and plans
then you go and put your band in the hands of a greedy champagne man.

Sometimes when inspiration hits you have to action it quick.
Revenge is sweet and if you keep it neat no one will suspect.
The special codes, secret downloads, the bank accounts so insecure.
A crime online can work just fine if you know the score.

It all happened very fast like it should.
They voted with their feet and it felt so good.
Pounding the street - it felt so good.
Stealing back what they never had and never would.

So now they’re on the run, the plans long gone, the songs all sung.
They’ll never have another number one but that don’t matter as long as it’s still fun.
No success is worth the pressure or the pain of someone selling out your name
but just given half a chance they know they’d do it all again.

Jeremy said maybe it’s time to split.
Alison said I think we got away with it.
Derek said we’re not dead yet so let’s not quit.
Maybe we should go and write a song about it.
